To Judy and Lee’s friends and colleagues,
First, we would like to thank each and every one of you for your incredibly generous gifts to the Esmé and Lila Dirks Memorial Support Fund, and we want to express our deep gratitude for the love and concern you’ve all sent our way over the past few months. We have felt so held by all of you, as we continue to mourn the loss of our Judy and Lee.
We want you all to know that, in spite of the incomprehensible loss they suffered, Esmé and Lila are doing well. They have remained in their home in Seattle and are attending the same school, which they absolutely love. We believe this is in large part due to the fact that Judy and Lee enrolled them in a very nurturing school that provides an exceptional learning environment, while also promoting the importance of emotional growth. We simply can’t say enough about the love and support the girls have received from their school community.
On the subject of schooling, we also wanted to let you all know that we are now confident, and extremely thankful, that Esmé and Lila’s future educational and other day-to-day needs are secure. As a result, we have closed the Esmé and Lila Dirks Memorial Support fund from receiving future gifts.
To those of you who donated to the Esmé and Lila Dirks Memorial Support Fund, please know your gifts are being applied to the girls’ educational needs. To those who may still want to honor Judy and Lee’s memories, we have created a fundraising page in support of a non-profit that has become very important to the girls over the past few months.
The non-profit is Safe Crossings. This organization has provided Esmé and Lila with ongoing grief counseling since immediately following Judy and Lee’s memorial service. The girls meet weekly with a counselor, who uses games and play therapy to help them create memory books about their mom and dad, as well as to identify, understand, and express their emotions. Esmé and Lila are really benefitting from this program, and, it’s all free of charge! If you would like to honor Judy and Lee going forward and to support an organization that is helping their daughters heal, as well as other children who, like them, have lost loved ones, just click here.
